AN ACT TO PROVIDE WORK TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR OFFENDERS IN TRADES IN WHICH THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF WORKERS; TO AUTHORIZE THE COMMISSIONER OF CORRECTIONS TO COOPERATE WITH PRIVATE INDUSTRY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The Department of Corrections shall establish work training programs in conjunction with private industry to provide training to offenders in those trades in which there is a shortage of workers.

(2) The commissioner may cooperate with private industry for the establishment of work training programs.

(3) Private industry shall provide the training at state correctional facilities.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
